Introduction:

Site identified in 1960 by J. Norman Emerson and crew (University of Toronto). William J. Mayer-Oakes (University of Oklahoma) and crew revisited site in 1961, at which time test excavations were conducted. Mayer-Oakes (now of University of Manitoba) and crew returned in 1962 to conduct major excavation at Tailrace Bay Site (FgLt-1). The site is interpreted as a multicomponent habitation site, occupied from spring through fall (not winter). A single burial was disturbed by heavy equipment related to a construction project during 1961. This individual is not included in this database. The site is no longer intact and has been destroyed by flooding due to dam construction.
